Map: Cranbrook Community Forest

This area was mapped for the 2022 Canadian Orienteering Championships. A true forest orienteering experience in the amazing runnable forest in the Eager Hills area of Cranbrook. We are holding this event on a weekend during the day so that we can create a longer course on this fabulous terrain. This will give you more time to get out and test your navigation skills on the best forest orienteering terrain in our region!

For newcomers we will do a quick refresher of the skills you've learned so far this year.

Course Descriptions:

Advanced ( 7.6km) - a long course for experienced orienteers that will be a test of your navigation & route choice skills

Medium (5.0km) - a course longer than most weeknight events that will take you off the trails. If you've been coming out for a number of the weeknight events and are getting comfortable and confident with your navigation skills this is the course to sign up for.

Beginner (3.2 km) - this course stays on the trail system.

You should bring your own water on the courses and carry a whistle.

Meeting Place & Access - The Start area is on the east side of Eager Hill. The access is a bit tricky. You have to be coming -- Southbound -- on Highway 93 (the highway from Fort Steele) and take a right on the gravel road just at the beginning of the big 93/95/3 interchange. (right where the yellow 'Exit 80km/hr' sign is. Don't try to go north on the 93 and turn left onto this gravel road - there is a turn-off just further ahead which you can use or you can pull-out and turn around at the Mission Fort Steele Road on the left about 1,.5km further north. Take a look on google maps/google street view to get familiar with the area.
