Orienteering Skills Training
This is our final chance to get in some orienteering training prior to the Canadian Orienteering Championships coming up in Canmore at the end of July.
When: Sunday, July 17th, 10:00 am - 'til you're tired…
Map: Double Duck, 1:10000 (south part)
Meet at south parking area off Highway 3 (Fraggle Rock).
Look for O sign.
Training: informal (no set course) control hanging and picking with a focus on detailed contours, compass work, route planning, attack points and control descriptions, with multiple feedback sessions, plus cross country running fitness for short and longer route choices.
Register: Open to all KOC members, but basic map, compass and orienteering skills are a prerequisite. Not suitable for first-timers.
Please register in advance, so we know how many maps to print.
Free for current KOC members, $5 otherwise.
Suggested to bring: water bottle, snacks, compass (can borrow), mosi-off, sun screen, bear spray and holster*, small pack to put above in.
*(For the COC's this year it will be mandatory for all participants to carry bear spray. You may want to use this training event to tweak your system for carrying your canister.)
