For all those interested in learning what Orienteering is all about, please come join us at our first ever "Orienteering Open House Event". Experienced Kootenay Orienteering Club members will be there to teach you the basics of orienteering so that you will feel more confident navigating your way around an orienteering course. You do not have to be a member of the club to attend this Open House event. The Open House is open to anyone, although we ask that youth 13 and under be accompanied by an adult. Orienteering is a sport that you can do as a group/family so bring the kids and learn what it is all about. Cost: $2-to be collected at the Open House when you sign in. Once you learn some of the basics, you can take a map and try a course or two to get the hang of things. We will have sessions starting at 5:30 and then again at 6:00. Please if you are planning on attending, sign up below for your desired starting time and tell us how many are in your group. We hope to see lots of new faces and we look forward to showing you what orienteering is all about!

This event will take place on our McKim School/Wallinger map. Park in the McKim school main parking lot and follow the signs.

For those who are already know how to orienteer, there will be 2 regular courses to choose from so come on out and let's get the season started!

*Note: You can easily purchase your 2025 KOC membership online by following the 2025 membership link on the home page of our website! A membership gives you free entry to any KOC events for the year.

WRAP UP!

Well, what a great opening night of orienteering fun for KOC! Thanks to all those who came out to give orienteering a try and thanks to all those regular members that came to test themselves on one of our courses! Geoffrey was tonight's winner on the long course with a 1 second victory over Kyle on the long advanced course with about 6 km of running and navigating around the streets and forest on our Wallinger Map. Incredible! Check out the results below.

This was our first Open House for Beginners event and we had 20 people out to learn the basics of Orienteering. We hope to see all you newcomers again at one of our upcoming events. All you have to do is take out a membership to the Kootenay Orienteering Club. If you go to the Homepage on this website, you will find the link to the online memberships there. Only $10/person will get you free entry into our seasonal club events.
