Join us on this fun forest map in the Cranbrook Community Forest. Course planners are preparing a Score-O style event so you get to try to navigate to as many controls as possible within a given time. Which control points you go to are totally up to you! Again, there will be continued training for our newcomers to orienteering group starting at 5:30.

Check-in starts at 5:00 with newcomer training beginning at 5:30 sharp! (IF YOU WANT TO JOIN THE TRAINING SESSION, PLEASE BE CHECKED IN AND READY TO START AT 5:30!) This weeks training will be learning about Attack Points and Catching Features, 2 really important techniques/concepts to understand and apply when orienteering. Hope to see you there!

$10 FOR NON-MEMBERS FOR A SINGLE EVENT.

FOR ALL THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE ATTENDED AN OPEN HOUSE EVENT AND WANT TO CONTINUE ATTENDING CLUB EVENTS, WE ASK THAT YOU PLEASE TAKE OUT AN ONLINE MEMBERSHIP ($10/INDIVIDUAL) BEFORE ATTENDING THIS EVENT. INDIVIDUAL FEE FOR ONE EVENT IS $10 AND WILL BE COLLECTED AT REGISTRATION IF NOT A MEMBER. MEMBERSHIP SUPPORTS OUR CLUB IN SUPPLYING EQUIPMENT, PRINTING MAPS, PROVIDING TRAINING AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, IS FOR CLUB INSURANCE PURPOSES.

  • Participants are given a map with up to 15 control points
  • Control points can be visited in any order
  • Each control point has a point value of between 10 to 30 points
  • Locations that are more challenging or further away from the start / finish area will have more points
  • You have 10 minutes to plan your route before you start
  • Course time limit is 75 minutes
  • The goal is to collect as many points as you can in the 75 minutes
  • There is no minimum number of control points that you have to visit
  • Score O is excellent training for planning your route, decision making and strategy. You will be able to practise all your orienteering skills whether someone just new to the sport or a long-time orienteer

Low key events with the focus on fun and learning. The intent is to offer orienteering suitable for newcomers plus a course which is challenging for experienced orienteers.
